(2012માં લખાયેલો આ લેખ અશ્વિની ભટ્ટની ‘કમઠાણ’ પરથી આવી રહેલી ફિલ્મની ખુશીમાં પુનઃ પ્રકાશિત કરી રહ્યો છું.)

સતત એક જ પ્રકારનું ખાવાનું ખાઈને માણસ કંટાળી શકે છે માટે આપણને ખાવામાં વૈવિધ્ય જોઈએ છે. વાચન મગજનો ખોરાક છે અને સતત એક જ પ્રકારનું વાચન પણ માણસને કંટાળો આપી શકે છે. માટે જ એક સાથે બે-ત્રણ પુસ્તકો વાંચવા મારી અંગત આદત છે. અત્યારે ઇરવિંગ વોલેસની ‘ધ પ્લૉટ’ અને ચંદ્રકાંત બક્ષીની ‘દર્શન વિશ્વ’નું વાચન ચાલું છે. ‘સરસ્વતીચંદ્ર’, ‘કિતને પાકિસ્તાન’ અને ‘ધ ઓલ્ડ મેન એન્ડ ધ સી’ વેઇટિંગમાં છે. એ દરમિયાન એક નવી વેબસાઈટ પરથી પ્રાયોગિક ધોરણે મંગાવવામાં આવેલી (અને આ પહેલા ઓછામાં ઓછી પાંચેક વાર વાંચેલી) શ્રી અશ્વિની ભટ્ટની ‘કમઠાણ’ (ISBN: 978-81-8440-141-7) એકદમ સમયસર ઘરે આવી પહોંચી. મનમાં થયું કે ‘કમઠાણ’ તો કેટલીય વાર વાંચી છે, માટે આ બધા પુસ્તકો વંચાઈ જાય પછી તેને હાથમાં લઈશ. પણ રાત્રે જેવો પથારીમાં પડ્યો કે અતિ પ્રિય સ્વજન આપણા શહેરમાં જ હોય અને તેને મળવા જવાનું ટાળ્યું હોય તેવી ગિલ્ટ ફીલિંગ મનમાં આવવા લાગી. છેવટે ‘કમઠાણ’ હાથમાં લીધી અને એકી બેઠકે તેને પૂરી કર્યે જ છૂટકો થયો. જેણે પ્રિયદર્શન દિગ્દર્શીત ‘હેરા ફેરી’ જોઈ છે, તેને એ ફરી વાર જોવાનો ક્યારેય કંટાળો નહી આવે. તેવું જ આ પુસ્તકનું છે. તેને ગુજરાતી નવલકથાની ‘હેરા ફેરી’ કહી શકાય અને તમે જેટલી વાર વાંચશો, તેટલી વાર ખડખડાટ હસશો, એની ગેરંટી.
